Abstract

Gabriele Lotfi examines the “labour and disciplinary camps” as a functional part of the National Socialist system of rule. These were punishment camps governed by the police where people not conforming to the requirements of discipline at work in war economy were held. In keeping with the “claim to education in the service of the whole community”, hard work and similar accomodation were meant to punish offences and to serve as a deterrent.
